Why Your Lancashire Website Gets Google Impressions but Almost No Enquiries

The problem is often hiding in plain sight

A business can see thousands of Google impressions and assume it is on the verge of a flood of enquiries. Yet an impression simply means a search result appeared; it does not mean a customer clicked, read the page or decided to make contact. That difference matters. When a Lancashire firm is worried about poor SEO performance, I would rather begin with its actual Search Console information than promise a new batch of pages.

Start with the right question

Are the impressions for the services that matter commercially? A website might appear frequently for broad marketing questions but rarely for searches where somebody is looking to hire an experienced agency. Search Console helps identify that gap. Look at the Queries and Pages reports together, not in isolation. High impressions with weak average positions suggest one type of problem; reasonable positions with a poor click-through rate suggest another.

What happens after the click?

Some sites have a technical barrier. A form may not work reliably, a mobile navigation item might be difficult to use or an old telephone number may still appear in the footer. Other sites are simply unconvincing. A visitor sees vague promises, generic stock wording and no clear evidence that the business understands their requirements. Both situations can be improved, but they require different fixes.

The page itself has to earn trust

A useful service page explains who the service is for, what is included, which geographical areas are genuinely covered and what a customer should do next. It does not need to repeat a keyword in every paragraph. Consider a regional engineering supplier and a domestic roofing company: both might benefit from SEO, but their customers ask different questions and make decisions differently. Their content should reflect that.

Measure the enquiries that matter

Before concluding that a new campaign works, set up analytics for phone clicks, email clicks and completed enquiry forms. Google Analytics 4 and Search Console answer different questions; use both. We also recommend checking consent settings and testing events rather than trusting that a plugin was installed.

A sensible next step

If your business appears in search but receives little response, a focused review of SEO services in Lancashire and your main conversion pages is a better starting point than more generic articles. Based in Colne, we help local businesses work through the evidence, fix the foundations and choose a realistic plan. Request a website review or call 07916 923221.

Questions about this topic

Often the site appears for broad or loosely related searches, or in low positions where few people scroll. Look at Search Console queries and average positions together to see which it is.

Not before checking search demand, current performance and the quality of the pages that already rank. More thin pages rarely fix a conversion problem.

Test it on desktop and mobile, check that submissions actually arrive, and track completed forms in Google Analytics 4 so you can see how many people finish it.

At a minimum, phone clicks, email clicks and completed enquiry forms, marked as key events and tested in DebugView before you rely on the numbers.
